Bayley Wang, co-founder and CEO of PrismaX, says intelligent robots are getting closer to reality - defined as those with visual sensors and processing capabilities on par with sophisticated AI.
But they’re unlikely to be walking around.
“The first robot will be something that is on a cart or a static appliance,” Wang said during a presentation at the Open AGI Summit, a side event apart from the main ETHDenver conference.
While the systems are getting more intelligent, the stakes with physical robots are higher than, say, if a spreadsheet is filled in incorrectly.
"If you buy a robot and it goes and smashes your dishes once a week, it may still be 93% accurate, but it's probably a really bad product,” Wang said.
The packed corridor at the event, held in an exposed-brick venue in Denver’s RiNo district, revealed how, in the midst of a crypto bear market, AI was one of the hottest topics.
The Open AGI Summit was hosted by Sentient Labs, which describes itself as a decentralized protocol building the world’s first open and community-built AGI network. AGI stands for artificial general intelligence.
The event concluded with an AI trivia contest that was, I must admit, much smarter and more entertaining than I had expected.
I was also somewhat jealous of the sparkly ruby jacket worn by Sentient Labs product lead Oleg Golev, who officiated the contest.
